Thanks Lodi Community!
Due to negative publicity by the Lodi News Sentinel, our Look Who's In the Dog House fundraiser was not as successful as we had hoped. We are still accepting donations which will be used for medicines and special surgeries for dogs and cats at the Lodi Animal Shelter and PALS. Thanks to all those who participated in the dog house and all the people who stopped in or donated to volunteers along Kettleman Lane. A big thanks to our dedicated volunteers who spent hours at the street, waving signs and receiving donations. One donor, about 8 years old gave his allowance of $2.50 and another donor gave up her lunch money to help the animals! Wow!

Look Who"s In The Dog House Fundraiser
June 5 will be the date for PALS and LAS fundraiser, Look Who's In The Dog House. A fake dog house will be set up along Kettleman Lane. Individuals from the community, including Mayor Larry Hansen, will take turns in the dog house, calling friends, family and coworkers to donate money to adopt them out of the dog house. Proceeds from the event will be used for medicines and special surgeries for animals at PALS and LAS.We are also having an Open House in our Adoption Center and shelter. If you would like to volunteer to be in the dog house or if you would like to donate towards the event, please call us at 224-0354 or Carol at 663-1701. Thanks!

Kitten Season
It is kitten season and PALS and the Lodi Animal Shelter could use powdered milk (KMR or similar),bottles, and people willing to foster. We prefer people who have had experience with bottle babies but we can also train. It does mean a 2-4 hour feeding schedule. Also, we can always use foster supplies. This includes collapsable cages, litter boxes, small ceramic dishes, bedding and clay (non clumping) litter. If you find a litter of kittens please be aware that the feral or outside mom cat may be back so do not remove them unless they are in danger or the mom has not returned in several hours. It is very difficult to care for very tiny kittens and it is best to keep them with their mom. We appreciate your generosity to assist with helpless homeless kittens in our community.

Supplementary Adoption Day
Just a reminder that this Sat. and every third Sat. is supplementary adoption day at LAS and PALS. Through Maddie's Grant, we are able to discount your spay or neuter fee by $25 when adopting an unaltered cat or dog from LAS or PALS . Also, with every adoption you receive a free vet exam from local vets, and with your receipt, a gift pack from Robinson's Feed Store. PALS works hard to keep adoption costs down so more cats and dogs can be rescued. Remember that adoption requires serious assessment of your situation and your buget. We want you to provide a permanent loving home for our furry shelter friends.

Can't volunteer but want to help shelter animals?
If you can't volunteer at PALS or LAS here is one way you can help if you have your own website through your small business or company. You can add the petfinder scroller to your website! That way anyone who checks out your website can see the animals at the shelter and maybe be inspired to adopt or donate. It's easy to do. Just go to the petfinder.com pet list scroller generator. There is a form for you to fill out. Enter your name, email and your website information. Then, our information. PALS ID is CA1184 and LAS is CA128. Both scrollers will appear on your website. This is an easy way to help shelter animals and show the public your support of the efforts of PALS volunteers. If you add the scroller, please email us at pals.lodi@yahoo.com and we will thank you on our website! Or if you don't have the time, just email us your name, email address and website and we will do the rest for you. Thanks!

Be Our Valentine
Show your love of animals by donating, adopting, volunteering/fostering.Or, if your house is already full of 4 legged companions, you could donate supplies for our adoption center or the Lodi Animal Shelter. Our kitten room could use break away cat collars so we can match up all those practically identical tabbies with their name cards! We can use pet beds, small/med/large litter boxes, clay litter, litter scoops, cleaning supplies such as bleach, window spray, detergent etc. President Obama is a great proponent of volunteerism. Please do your part and you will get back more than you bargained for - lots of sloppy kisses.

Petfinder is a wealth of information
If you are interested in adopting a pet or want to find out more about the pet you have, go to petfinder.com. At the top of the website, you will see various topics. Under the Learn tab, for example, you can find out about all the popular dog and cat breeds. This is a valuable resource you can use to match a particular breed of dog or cat to your family. Dogs especially have many different needs and attributes and it is best to match the dog with your family. Even if a dog is very cute or you like big dogs, that doesn't mean that your home is the best for the dog. What results is a very unhappy dog, and an unhappy owner when the dog starts acting up either from lack of space, lack of exercise, lack of companionship or lack of a job. The dog will act out, either by barking, digging, chewing, destroying or other behaviors. Then, exasperated, the owner ends up taking the dog to a new home or shelter. Education is key. Please do your homework before you decide to adopt. Let's make it a happy, life long partnership.

A Home For Christmas
It is not a good idea to get someone a pet as a gift for Christmas, in fact, PALS, as a responsible rescue organization does not allow it. A pet is a personal choice and a life long commitment. Christmas is also a very busy time with friends and relatives going in and out of the home and day and weekend trips out of town. This would be very stressful for a new pet. Therefore, even though we would love for all of our cats and dogs to have a home for Christmas, we know this is unrealistic. You can help them by donating food(Healthwise preferred), bedding, blankets and treats. We would love to continue with adoptions after the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season when your new pet can get the attention and love it deserves. Have a very Merry Christmas and safe holiday season from all the volunteers at PALS.

PALS AND LAS OPEN HOUSE!!
PALS and LAS invite the public for a holiday Open House on Dec 6 from 11am to 3pm. Meet the wonderful volunteers and officers who are dedicated to finding homes for Lodi's furry citizens. We will have popcorn, cookies and apple cider and from 12 to 2 SANTA WILL BE HERE!!! Bring your furry friend for a cute photo with Santa for a $10 donation. It's been a difficult year due to the economy, foreclosures and the continuing war in Iraq. Please open your hearts and wallets to support the volunteers' efforts to provide medical care, food, litter, socialization and dog walking services to abandoned animals at LAS and PALS. We will be on hand to accept donations of Healthwise cat and dog food, and litter and supplies for foster homes. Tours will be given of the Lodi Animal Shelter and PALS.
Thanks!!!

Yes We Can!!!
Can we find people in Lodi and the surrounding area who can give a few hours of their time to volunteer to help shelter animals?
Yes We Can!!!
Can we find foster homes to keep shelter animals until they are ready for spay and neuter and are healthy enough to be adopted to loving homes?
Yes We Can!!!
Can we find people with generous hearts willing to donate their hard earned dollars to save the lives of abandoned and homeless kittens and dogs?
Yes We Can!!!
It is a time of giving and caring.
Come on Lodi. Yes You Can!!!

Have a Safe Halloween!
In a few days children will be out for treats. Not only do you need to keep your kids safe, you need to keep your pets safe by ensuring gates and doors are latched and safely storing your candy stash. Chocolate is toxic to pets! Maybe your kids would like to forgo the treats and opt to treat shelter animals instead! They can use Healthwise dog and cat food, dog and cat treats (no rawhide please), litter and toys. The nights are getting colder so any old blankets are appreciated (no filling please). Thanks!

Doggie Round up and Barkatecture a Success!

Thanks to all the great volunteers, board members and participants. See you again next year!

LAS/CDBG FUNDS SPAY AND NEUTER PROGRAM
The Lodi Animal Shelter has a new spay and neuter program paid for by Community Development Block Grant Funds. The focus is on Pit Bulls/Pit Mixes, cats and ferals. The program is limited to certain neighborhoods in the target zone of Lodi (bounded by Turner/Hutchins St/Harney Lane and Guild Ave). Not all neighborhoods in this boundary are included, so check first to see if your address is included. The voucher pays for the spay or neuter and rabies shot. The cost is free! This will be a great way to prevent unwanted pregancies and overcrowding at the Lodi Animal Shelter. There is a low income restriction and you need proof of Lodi residency in the target zone. For more information, please contact Lodi Animal Services at 333-6741 or visit their office at 1345 West Kettleman Lane. Office hours are Mon-Sat. 8:00am-5pm.

National Homeless Animals Day
Please join PALS and the Lodi Animal Shelter for National Homeless Animals Day on Saturday, August 16 at our Adoption Center (1405 W. Kettleman Lane) Festivities will begin at 11am and end at 3pm. We will have the ribbon cutting for the Zippy Zone Dog Run exercise area and the dedication of the Mural designed by Tony Segale and donated by the Lodi Arts Commission. The drawing for the cruise donated by Cruises Etc. and Royal Caribbean will also be done on that day so there is still time to enter - only $10. Since this event lands on our 3rd Saturday, special adoption day, thanks to Maddie's grant, we will be offering $25 off of your spay or neuter fee if you choose to adopt a cat or kitten that day. Please come out and show your support for the Lodi Animal Shelter, it's officers and staff and PALS and the dedicated volunteers who work hard to help homeless animals in the City of Lodi. We appreciate and depend on your support!!!

Foster Homes Save Lives
Cats and dogs from the Lodi Animal Shelter have to go into foster homes before they can enter PALS Adoption Center. During this time the cats or dogs are fed and cared for by foster parents, medicated if ill and taken to the vet if necessary. PALS provides the necessary equipment you will need to foster including cage, litter box, food dishes, food, bedding etc. All you need to do is provide TLC, socialization, to bring the cat or dog back for vaccinations and sometimes, a vet visit. You would need to fill out a volunteer and foster application and be fingerprinted through the City of Lodi. We also would do a quick home check to ensure the safety of the shelter animal.

Please call us if you can open your home and heart to a shelter animal. PALS 224-0354. Or, if you can not foster, you can donate supplies so someone else can foster. We are in desperate need of cat condos, rabbit hutch style cages for cats with kittens and other collapsible cages. Please call Carol at 663-1701 if you would like to donate.

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives.
